As long as the muscles and nerves are in place and not damaged and the person is willing and able to learn how to use them and s/he then trains his or her guy-wire-type muscles the scoliosis problem could be fixed by correct use of voluntary muscles.

The same basic principle of preventing too much bending, using other muscles, can be applied in another direction to strengthen the spine by preventing too much curve forward and backward. Coral's Anatomy


You may have encountered the term cnidarians once in biology perhaps but you forgot the meaning of the word. Let me refresh your mind a bit with the meaning of this term. The mucus-producing cells release viscous liquid that helps remove foreign particles out of the polyp's body. It basically cleans the internal and external parts of the polyp. Some polyps are nocturnal when it comes to feeding, meaning they actively feed on night more than during the day. They protect themselves by keeping their tentacles during the day and would protract their tentacles offensively during night time in order to capture its prey. The hollow air spaces in the body are known as sinuses. There are about 60 sinuses spread throughout your body. To function normally and stay healthy, each sinus cavity must be able to drain mucus and exchange air through these openings.
The paranasal sinuses are composed of:

The Ethmoid Sinuses are located behind the bridge of the nose in the ethmoid bone. These sinuses consist of 6-12 thin-walled cavities. These are divided into anterior, middle and posterior groups. The posterior group drains into the nasal cavity towards the rear. Sometimes one or more of the posterior group opens into the sphenoid sinus. The middle group and anterior group drain into the middle of the nasal cavity.

The Frontal Sinuses are located behind your eyebrows in the frontal bone. They can differ in size from left to right and in about 5% of people they are not present at all. The frontal sinuses are absent at birth, but are well-developed by age 8, and reach their full size around puberty. The frontal sinuses drain into the middle part of the nasal cavity.

The Maxillary Sinuses are the largest of the paranasal sinuses. They are located behind each cheekbone and are roughly triangular in shape. The maxillary sinuses drain into the middle par t of the nasal cavity. The opening into the nasal cavity is found high up on the sinus wall and these sinuses do not drain well with the head upright.

The Sphenoid Sinuses consist of one or two sinuses located deep behind the bridge of the nose in the sphenoid bone. These sinuses drain into the back part of the nasal cavity. The openings of the sphenoid sinuses are also located high on sinus wall and do not drain well when the head is upright.

The sinus lining is composed of epithelium cells (with and without cilia), goblet cells, and basal cells. There are also wandering immune cells present (lymphocytes and mast cells). The sinus lining forms a physical barrier that keeps bacteria, pollutants and allergens from entering our bloodstream and tissues.

The sinus lining also produces mucus from the goblet cells. This mucus traps the pollutants, bacteria and allergens. The mucus also has special antibodies and enzymes that;

    * prevent viruses and bacteria from sticking to the sinus lining
    * help our white blood cells to recognize viruses and bacteria as invaders and to kill them

The ciliated epithelial cells work together to sweep out the mucus that has foreign materials and microorganisms. This process is known as mucociliary clearance. These ciliated cells are very sensitive to humidity, pollutants and toxins. If they don't function well, we can expect sinus infections to occur.

Pharmacology studies the effects of drugs introduced to the body. Drug dosage concerns the appropriate quantities of a drug given to a patient to treat or alleviate discomfort. The nervous system is essential to the body in several ways. It allows us to detect changes in the surroundings but additionally the ability to react to it. The nervous system is categorised into two main sections:

When a receptor detects some form of stimulus it sends the information as an electrical signal down nerves (neurons). The brain is then able to gather information about changes in the environment and co-ordinate a response. This response is more rapid and often involves effectors.

Effectors

Effectors are glands or muscles that the brain sends commands to via nerves. Any mobile body part of the body is an effector as are internal glands: a muscle used to lift your leg up is an effector; a muscle that controls the eye lid is an effector; a gland that releases a hormone into the cardiovascular system is an effector.

Reflex

Generally when a receptor detects stimuli causing an electrical message to travel down the sensory nerve to the central nervous system. Here the brain organises a reaction (thinking time) and another electrical impulse is sent down down the motor neuron.This in turn sends an electrical signal to an effector and the effector produces a response:

Stimuli->Receptor->Sensory neuron->CNS->Motor neuron->Effector->Response

In some cases this response time is not fast enough and could cause us to get injured. At these times the nervous system skips out the CNS to speed up the action: a receptor detects a stimulus and an electrical impulse travels down the sensory neuron. Here it sends an electrical signal down a relay neuron which skips out the brain and communicates directly with a motor neuron which causes an effector to produce an action:

Stimuli->Receptor->Sensory neuron->Relay neuron->Motor neuron-Effector->Response

Though a relay neuron is part of the CNS, this is more rapidly as it skips out the thinking time.

Nerve Structure

Neurons are a type of cell that is capable of transmitting electrical impulses. Neurons are involved in the whole system. Without them we would not be able to think or move! There are 3 main types of neuron:

1.Sensory neurons
2.Relay neurons
3.Motor neurons

Despite these different neurons having different places within the nervous system, they have some central anatomical features:

Axon: This is what an electrical message travels down

Myelin Sheathe: This insulates the Axon and speeds up the electrical impulse.

Dendrites: These overlap with other neuron dendrites at junctions called synapses. This is where nerves communicate with each other.

Nerve Synapses

Synapses are the point where nerve cells (neurons) pass impulses between each other. The impulse travels down the axon. At the Dendrites (dendrons) it comes to a synapse. The impulse causes a neurotransmitter to be released across the neuron synapse. The neurotransmitter causes the next nerve cell to pass a command down its axon. In this way a nervous impulse can travel all over the body, controlling all sorts of processes and responses.
